MESSAGE FROM THE ROUTE SAFETY DIRECTOR

The main and most important goal of the Irish Pub Children’s Foundation Tour de Shore is to have every single rider safely arrive in Atlantic City after pedaling your way over the Ben Franklin Bridge and across southern New Jersey. If every rider practices standard bicycle safety, follows all state and local traffic laws and does so with common sense our goal will be achieved.

´╗┐PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE!!!!

LET’S START WITH THE HEAT:

We are anticipating an extremely hot and humid day. Don't let your ego pedal your bike. If you over heat and can't continue...CALL FOR A RIDE. We will take to a forward rest stop or Atlantic City. We have arranged a drop off location at the HOME DEPOT STORE IN ABSECON ON RT 30. You will have only 6 miles to go to Atlantic City Pub. Utilize all rest stops to hydrate and cool down.

POLICE TRAFFIC SUPPORT:

There will be more police support this year. Please listen and follow all of their directions! Many of those officers have volunteered their time to help you. The traffic laws for motor vehicles are the same for bicycles. Obey all traffic control devices and signs.

ROAD CONDITIONS & ROUTE CHANGES:

The IPCF cannot be held responsible for the conditions of the road surface. Due to the repaving of Market St. between 20th and City Hall - we will be taking Chestnut St. Follow signs and officer's directions. At this time it is still uncertain if we will be turning onto 7th St. or 5th St.

YOU ARE RIDING ON SOME BUSY ROADS! The motoring public may not feel that you are as important as they are. They may not care about the space that you and your bike are occupying!   Stay alert!

PERSONAL SUPPORT VEHICLES NOT PERMITTED ON THE BEN FRANKLIN BRIDGE BETWEEN 6:30 am and 8:00 AM - The Ben Franklin Bridge will be Closed!

If you have your own personal support vehicle, they will be prohibited from crossing the “Ben” once workers begin to put down the plates. If they have any intentions on crossing the “Ben” back to New Jersey, they should do so before 6:30 am! If not, they must wait until the “Ben” reopens at 8:00 am. The Walt Whitman Bridge will remain open the entire time.

REST STOPS

Please stop at the designated REST STOPS. Each REST STOP will have bathroom facilities, water, drinks and food. Ambulances and EMS personnel will staff each stop. Bike repair techs will also be able to assist you. MOVE YOUR EQUIPMENT OF THE ROAD AT EACH REST STOP. If you decide to leave your trash along the way, don't be surprised if you are handed a LITTERING TICKET.

INSPECT YOUR EQUIPMENT

Please inspect your equipment before you arrive at the Irish Pub! Bring an extra inner tube or 2!

HELMETS! HELMETS! HELMETS! Get the point?

BE PREPARED

Rest the night before. Review the course map and directions! Hydrate – with water – before you begin the ride. Arrive early at the Pub.

COMING IN FROM NJ or PHILADELPHIA SUBURBS?

If you a coming in from New Jersey, consider taking the PATCO High Speed Line at 5:30 am or 6:00 am you will get to the Pub in plenty of time – PLUS you will eliminate vehicle traffic in the area.

Check SEPTA for those of you coming from the PA Suburbs.

OFF THE ROAD BY 1:30 PM!!!

I didn't make this rule, but I must enforce it. We will be pushing everyone along to get you across the finish line in Atlantic City by 1:30 pm. If you feel you can’t make it, notify any support staff and you will be assisted. Put your pride and ego aside you did a great job getting as far as you did! Consider the Home Depot drop off spot for an alternative. Finish the last 6 miles and cross the finish line with you head held high.
